PROVERBS on speech

Proverbs 18:21

King James Version

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue:

and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

How important are the words we speak?

People say things like:

"Talk is cheap."

"If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all."

"Zip your lip."

Or, they cuss, and curse.

Or, they command, or commend.

What is the impact of the spoken word?

How shall we speak to our fellow beings?

The Bible tells us how:

Proverbs 6:16-19

King James Version

16 These six things doth the Lord hate:

yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue,

and hands that shed innocent blood,

feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies,

and he that soweth discord among brethren.

GOD keeping WATCH

Psalm 141:3

King James Version

3 Set a watch, O Lord,

before my mouth;

keep the door of my lips.

We've all heard the reminder:

"If you have nothing good to say, don't say it."

As born again, that basic knowledge is taken to the highest level.

At the foot of GOD.

Where we implore the LORD to guard our tongue.

That we would only speak of His gospel.

And not of vain babblings.

It's so very easy to babble these days.

We've got lots of social media platforms to present ourselves.

But the true born again only follows the lead of SPIRIT.

What to think.

What to say.

What to do.

Where to be.

Who to be with.

We are, after all, SOLDIERS of CHRIST.

GOD's soldier always keeps watch.

We're always vigilant.

We live by the Bible alone.

May our efforts always be righteous.

Proverbs 15:28

King James Version

28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer:

but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

I had not realized how misused VERBAL communication is.

Or, how powerful it is.

Especially in these last days.

Of course, JESUS knew that, from day one:

Matthew 12:34

King James Version

34 O generation of vipers,

how can ye, being evil,

speak good things?

for out of the abundance of the heart

the mouth speaketh.

And GOD sure knows man's heart:

Jeremiah 17:9

King James Version

9 The heart is deceitful above all things,

and desperately wicked:

who can know it?

The world has become cacophonic.

People love the sound of their voice.

The world is drowning in its own vanity.

In April 2022, I even had a dream of how evil presented itself.

As many "lying lips", coming from a HUGE source.

Out of it shuffled a tiny, hooded "minion".

Headed for someone I knew.

I only care to hear the VOICE of the LORD.

I only care to hear His WORD.

What would He say?

What are His instructions?

What is His will?

You will find, it's a "word" behind you:

Isaiah 30:21

King James Version

21 And thine ears

shall hear a word behind thee,

saying,

This is the way,

walk ye in it,

when ye turn to the right hand,

and when ye turn to the left.

The day you become born again, you can be sure the SPIRIT of GOD will guide you.

He will make Scripture easy to understand.

You will know the power of words.

And the POWER of GOD's WORD.

Head over to the next post for more VERBAL verses.

JESUS on SPEECH

Matthew 12:37

King James Version

37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified,

and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

What does the LORD JESUS say about speech?

How does He want us to speak?

What does He want us to say?

We've gathered some verses here.

Consider these as foundation for our speech.

Matthew 5:5

King James Version

5 Blessed are the meek:

for they shall inherit the earth.

Matthew 5:6

King James Version

6 Blessed are they

which do hunger and thirst after righteousness:

for they shall be filled.

Matthew 5:7

King James Version

7 Blessed are the merciful:

for they shall obtain mercy.

Matthew 5:8

King James Version

8 Blessed are the pure in heart:

for they shall see God.

Matthew 5:9

King James Version

9 Blessed are the peacemakers:

for they shall be called the children of God.

Matthew 5:10

King James Version

10 Blessed are they

which are persecuted for righteousness' sake:

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:11-12

King James Version

11 Blessed are ye,

when men shall revile you,

and persecute you,

and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely,

for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad:

for great is your reward in heaven:

for so persecuted they the prophets

which were before you.

Matthew 5:19-20

King James Version

19 Whosoever therefore shall break

one of these least commandments,

and shall teach men so,

he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven:

but whosoever shall do and teach them,

the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20 For I say unto you,

That except your righteousness shall exceed

the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees,

ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:22

King James Version

22 But I say unto you,

That whosoever is angry with his brother

without a cause

shall be in danger of the judgment:

and whosoever shall say to his brother,

Raca,

shall be in danger of the council:

but whosoever shall say,

Thou fool,

shall be in danger of hell fire.

Matthew 5:23-24

King James Version

23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar,

and there rememberest

that thy brother hath ought against thee;

24 Leave there thy gift before the altar,

and go thy way;

first be reconciled to thy brother,

and then come and offer thy gift.

Matthew 5:25-26

King James Version

25 Agree with thine adversary quickly,

whiles thou art in the way with him;

lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge,

and the judge deliver thee to the officer,

and thou be cast into prison.

26 Verily I say unto thee,

Thou shalt by no means come out thence,

till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

Matthew 12:34

King James Version

34 O generation of vipers,

how can ye, being evil,

speak good things?

for out of the abundance of the heart

the mouth speaketh.

Matthew 12:36

King James Version

36 But I say unto you,

That every idle word that men shall speak,

they shall give account thereof

in the day of judgment.

Matthew 15:7-9

King James Version

7 Ye hypocrites,

well did Esaias prophesy of you,

saying,

8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth,

and honoureth me with their lips;

but their heart is far from me.

9 But in vain they do worship me,

teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Matthew 15:11

King James Version

11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man;

but that which cometh out of the mouth,

this defileth a man.

Matthew 15:16-20

King James Version

16 And Jesus said,

Are ye also yet without understanding?

17 Do not ye yet understand,

that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth

goeth into the belly,

and is cast out into the draught?

18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth

come forth from the heart;

and they defile the man.

19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts,

murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts,

false witness, blasphemies:

20 These are the things which defile a man:

but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

John 12:49-50

King James Version

49 For I have not spoken of myself;

but the Father which sent me,

he gave me a commandment,

what I should say,

and what I should speak.

50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting:

whatsoever I speak therefore,

even as the Father said unto me,

so I speak.

The IDLE word

Matthew 12:36

King James Version

36 But I say unto you,

That every idle word that men shall speak,

they shall give account thereof

in the day of judgment.

SPIRIT prompted me to create this blog, using that verse.

The verse above became the flagship verse for this blog.

EVERY word we speak matters.

JESUS was particular about the spoken word.

What did the LORD mean about "every idle word that men shall speak"?

BLOG name

Proverbs 22:1

King James Version

22 A good name is rather to be chosen

than great riches,

and loving favour

rather than silver and gold.

Prayer always helps.

I don't write, or create, until SPIRIT inspires and guides me.

After letting many name combinations play in my mind, I finally settled on "Gobrecomm", for these reasons that surfaced on their own (working with SPIRIT means you step aside, as He inspires you):

1. Gobrecomm stands for "God-breathed communication".

2. Go is 2 letters = number 2 stands for "Union, Witnessing, Divison"

3. bre is 3 letters = number 3 stands for "Resurrection, Divine Completeness, and Perfection"

4. comm is 4 letters = number 4 stands for "Creation...World"

5. Add 2+3+4 = 9 (number 9 stands for "Fruit of Spirit", "Divine Completeness from the Lord")

6. Acronyms that are short, make sense, and easy to pronounce, can be remembered easily.

7. It's what SPIRIT inspired me to use, after many combinations.

At first, I thought "SPIRIT-led communication" would have been appropriate.

But, on second thought, there were many spiritists.

I didn't want our blog to be branded that.

Could be misleading.

So, I prayed and prayed for a name.

SPIRIT allowed me to "play" with combinations.

Until, when I thought no name was forthcoming, the idea popped into my head.

Aha!

"God-breathed communication"

After all, this blog is on what the WORD of GOD says about written, verbal, and non-verbal, communication.

Now, the title was a bit long.

We decided on the Gobrecomm acronym.

It's settled then.

Now, we're ready to dig deep into Scripture.

Starting with a warning from the LORD JESUS.
